Baseball Card Pricing

Although we are mainly known for unopened boxes and cases of sports cards, we also have a buying team that does a lot of work with single cards. These guys mainly look to buy vintage baseball cards, but also purchase older unopened material and singles ranging from all the major sports to non-sport releases as well.

One of the most common questions we receive is about baseball card values. There are several online resources that provide pricing - including Beckett, Tuff Stuff, and CardPricer just to name a few.

We get calls everyday from people with lower end cards that at one time believed their early 90’s baseball card collecting would someday let them retire early. It is unfortunate for us to break the hard news to a lot of these people, but it is fun to talk to former collectors about the hobby.

If you are ever looking to sell your old baseball cards, we recommend checking out one of the price guides we listed above for reference.  Our team of buyers can also give you a free quote and will possibly buy your collection depending on what you have.

Things we are always looking to buy include:

Pre-1980 Singles

Pre-1970 Graded Singles

Pre-1985 Complete Sets

Older Unopened Boxes and  Cases

Non-Sport Cards

If you are interested in a free appraisal on your collection, you can always reach our buying team toll free at 1-888-440-9787 x.104 or Email Us

1935 National Chicle Football Cards Acquired

Reed, our Director of Purchasing, recently acquired over 60 cards from the legendary 1935 National Chicle Football set. Considered the top vintage set in football, collectors have long considered completing this 36 card set as a lifelong pursuit. The set is so tough to put together that only seven collectors have a complete set in the PSA Set Registry.

What is most impressive about this find is not so much the quantity of cards in the collection, but the spectacular condition of some of these gems. Fourteen of the cards were graded by PSA or SGC as NM-MT or better, including six graded SGC 96, all of which are considered the finest known examples of each card! While this collection did not include the highly coveted Bronko Nagurski (referred to as the Honus Wagner of football cards), it did have other HOFs such as Ken Strong, Clark Hinkle, Turk Edwards, Dutch Clark, and Knute Rockne.

Isola National Chicle Football Card

1935 Hinkle Chicle National Football Card

While we sold quite a few of these cards at the National earlier this month, there are quite a few gems available on the Graded Vintage Football Singles page. Graded Vintage is our fastest growing category at Dave & Adam’s, and deals like the National Chicle football collection proves we will become a major player in this industry.

Upper Deck and Donruss to Feature Brett Favre Jets Cards

From an Official Donruss Press Release :

Donruss today announced that a Brett Favre New York Jets trading card will appear in the company’s Playoff Absolute Memorabilia product, scheduled to reach retail stores the first week of September – some 20-days after Favre was dealt from the Packers to the NY Jets. The Favre card features a photo of the legendary signal-caller holding up his #4 NY Jets jersey at Thursday’s press conference. Donruss dispatched a photographer to the event with the express purpose of creating this special card.

Since the production for Playoff Absolute Memorabilia was in its final stages, the Favre card will be exclusively available in retail boxes which are sold at such leading retailers as Target, Wal-Mart, and other local supermarkets and drug stores. The boxes being shipped to hobby shops have already been packed out and are ready for distribution.

Not only will Favre replace third-year pro Kellen Clemens under center for the Jets, but he will also replace Clemens in the card set. Clemens’ Playoff Absolute Memorabilia card (#101) is being replaced by the Favre card in the retail product. As a result, the Favre card in the retail packs will be produced in shorter quantity than every other common card in the set.

From an Official Upper Deck Press Release:

He’s leaving the small town for the big city. It’s official: Brett Favre is the newest member of the New York Jets. The only question now is how long will Jets fans have to wait to get trading cards of their soon-to-be Hall-of-Fame quarterback? Upper Deck is pleased to announce that collectors will not have to wait long at all.

The trading card giant had been planning for weeks the possible scenarios that would cause Favre to leave Green Bay’s Lambeau Field. His first official New York Jets cards can be found in 2008 NFL SP Rookie Edition due out in November, but collectors will have an opportunity to find Jets insert cards of the gridiron legend much earlier.

In 2008 NFL Icons, which is set to release later this month, Upper Deck has inserted limited-edition exchange cards for “Immortal Letterman” inserts. These manufactured letter patches will spell out “Broadway Brett” if collectors are able to put together the entire set. Since Favre was best known as a Packer, Upper Deck will still produce cards of him dawning Green Bay’s colors. The majority of those cards will focus on the many achievements he had as a member of the Packers.

NFL Football is Here, and So Are the Cards

With Preseason NFL Football now underway, the 2008 football card market is continuing to heat up in the collecting world. Collectors have also taken note of one of the biggest moves in the History of the NFL, with Brett Favre becoming a member of the New York Jets.

One of the entertaining things about preseason football is paying attention to the performance of rookies and young players. The performance in preseason games may not determine which rookies will have strong NFL seasons, but it can give collectors an indication of who they may want to hang on to. For example, last night the stock of Arizona Cardinals running back Tim Hightower grew as he looked extremely quick and powerful on the field. Hightower also received praise from starting running back Edgerrin James, who was quoted during the game to say that he and Hightower would be a strong 1-2 punch this season.

Or what about the performance of Robert Meachem last night? The Saints 2007 first round pick has many collectors excited that are holding his 2007 rookies, especially after he broke the century mark and found the end zone last night. If you are busting boxes of new 2008 football products, look out for some of the lesser known rookies. Whether it is 2008 Upper Deck Football, the new Donruss Classics, or you’re waiting to tear into Topps Chrome, remember that even if your RC pull isn’t Darren McFadden you may have a hit on your hands.
Who are you collecting in 2008?
